My progress

Am loving the silver smithing course that I am doing once a week and am going to post some photos to chart my progress. Here's my first three attempts. The first photo is the brass ring we had to make to practice the cutting, shaping and soldering techniques. I know they use brass for the first item because it is cheaper than silver but man is it hard to work with compared to silver. Hence I didn't finish it. I have big ideas and wanted to get on to the silver making (second ring). I think I just proved that teachers make the worst students. We're so willful!

The second photo is the as yet unfinshed chain I am making which will encorporate some stones that I have bought from one of my favourite traders on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6320517. Will show more photos of that one as progress is made.

Oh wondorous mother nature!!!

How is it that nature can be such food for the soul and at the same time be such a ruthless killer? It is the opposites of kindness and ferocity that intrigues me and inspires my jewelry making, and my photography for that matter. The following are examples of the photos I take to get my creative juices flowing and believe me there's lot more where that came from!

Am home now and am just about to go for a run but thought I might add somes pics of some of my jewels. These are some of the recycled (upcycled) ones...

I was admiring one of my favourite bloggers (Elizabeth Rosas Jewelry ) and recently she had posted some photos of the lucious and visually wonderful San Francisco so I thought I might add some photos to my blog, since I too dabble in photography. These ones are from a trip I did to a local park here in Blenheim last year when I was doing a photography class with two students. Great fun, what a cool job I have! I will add more when I get home but these are a taste of my school ones. The first five were taken as a study of texture using the macro function on the camera. Quite effective me thinks!

Hi again. I think I'm coming to grips with this all now that I have done a little bit of reading. But it does seem a bit weird, writing a diary of my random thoughts for anyone else in the world to read. I know I'm doing it now too but doesn't that seem a wee bit strange to anyone else? I have never found myself that interesting but then maybe I am about to be proven wrong.....
